Governor Francis Nwifuru has directed the chairmen of Ebonyi State’s 13 local government areas to clear all outstanding salaries and pensions by 2 pm on Monday, December 23, 2024.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Dr. Monday Uzor, Governor Nwifuru issued the directive during the Elders and Widows’ Party at the Christian Ecumenical Centre, Abakaliki, on Sunday. Expressing dissatisfaction with the delays, the governor described the situation as unacceptable.
“By 2 pm tomorrow, all local government staff must receive their salaries and pensions,” he stated firmly.
Governor Nwifuru reiterated his administration’s commitment to good governance under the Chartered Needs Agenda, warning against sabotage. “If salaries for October and November are not paid by the deadline, the chairmen should resign,” he declared.
In a positive development, the governor also approved the immediate distribution of N50,000, a 25kg bag of rice, and a wrapper to each of the 5,000 widows and elders who attended the event.
