Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero has rejected the judgment of the Appeal Court, which overturned a Federal High Court order that had removed Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano. Bayero announced on Sunday that he plans to appeal the verdict at the Supreme Court.

Speaking to journalists at the Nasarawa Palace of the 15th Emir of Kano, Sarkin Dawaki Babba Aminu Babba DanAgundi, who initiated the suit struck out by the Appeal Court, expressed disappointment with the ruling. “Sanusi does not even understand that he has completely lost in all the cases at hand. I regret his remarks using the mosque platform to propagate something untrue about the Appeal Court’s decision,” he said.

DanAgundi explained that the initial case filed at the Federal High Court sought to nullify the repeal law enacted by the Kano State Assembly, alleging procedural flaws. “We were not disputing the Assembly’s powers to enact or repeal laws. Our concern was the lack of fair hearing for the 15th Emir, Aminu Ado Bayero, who was removed without an opportunity to defend himself. The Assembly did not follow proper procedures in repealing the law,” he added.

He criticized Sanusi for allegedly parading himself as the Emir of Kano and warned him against further actions that could disrupt peace in the state. “The police and DSS should intervene to prevent Sanusi from moving around with thugs and causing unrest in Kano,” DanAgundi stated.

DanAgundi emphasized that Sanusi’s claims of victory were premature, as the Supreme Court has yet to issue a final judgment. “The Attorney General and the Speaker of the Kano State Assembly had sought to bar Bayero from presenting himself as Emir. However, the Appeal Court rejected this and confirmed that Bayero was denied fair hearing, reaffirming his position as Emir of Kano,” he concluded.
