Akinwumi Adesina, president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), announced that Nigeria attracted $7.6 billion in investment interests during the Africa Investment Forum 2024, held in Rabat, Morocco, from December 4-6.
Adesina, a former Nigerian agriculture minister, shared the news in a statement posted on his X handle over the weekend, expressing his optimism about the positive effects these investments will have on Nigeria’s economy.
Adesina highlighted the participation of several Nigerian state governors at the forum, including those from Lagos, Kaduna, Katsina, Kwara, Plateau, and Ogun, underscoring the broad support for attracting investment.
“I am delighted that the Africa Investment Forum 2024 mobilized $7.6 billion of investment interest for Nigeria. It was great to have several state governors: Lagos, Kaduna, Katsina, Kwara, Plateau, and (later) Ogun. We will keep working to support & boost investments in Nigeria,” he said in his statement.
The forum, which attracted global attention, facilitated a total of $29.2 billion in investment interests across the African continent, focusing on key sectors such as energy, infrastructure, agriculture, and technology.
Nigeria’s finance minister, Wale Edun, had previously emphasized the need for $20 billion in annual investments to reach the country’s ambitious $1 trillion economy target by 2030. The successful mobilization of $7.6 billion at the Africa Investment Forum represents a significant step toward achieving that goal.
