The home-based Super Eagles secured a 0-0 draw against Ghana’s Black Galaxies in the first leg of their 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifier in Accra on Sunday.
Ghana dominated the first half but struggled to penetrate Nigeria’s resolute defense. The closest opportunity for the hosts came in the 15th minute when Stephen Amankwoo’s shot narrowly missed the target.
After the break, the Super Eagles gained momentum and nearly scored when Sikiru Alimi’s strike rattled the woodwork.
Both teams will reconvene for the second leg at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Saturday. The aggregate winner will secure qualification for CHAN 2024, jointly hosted by Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania.
The CHAN tournament is exclusive to professional players competing in their respective domestic leagues.
