The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at Adolphus Wabara, Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), accusing him of contributing to the party’s ongoing crisis.
During a media chat in Abuja on Sunday, Wike expressed strong disapproval of Wabara’s actions, stating that if Wabara were his father, he would have disowned him.
“If Wabara were my father, I would have disowned him. He doesn’t deserve to be a leader. No wonder former President Obasanjo made a presidential broadcast about his acts of corruption,” Wike remarked.
The minister blamed certain PDP leaders for the party’s struggles, accusing them of fostering division through their actions and comments. He criticized the attempts to remove the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and the National Secretary, Sam Anyanwu, despite existing court rulings.
Wike argued that such actions undermine the rule of law and the party’s constitution.
“It doesn’t bother me at all. The matter is in the hands of the courts, and the party constitution is clear. If they resign, they must be replaced through elections. The fact that someone is trying to bypass this process doesn’t surprise me,” he said.
The minister emphasized the need for PDP leaders to focus on resolving internal issues, particularly with the party’s convention scheduled for December. He called for adherence to due process to usher in a new executive.
“Some people are trying to manipulate the situation, but it will not succeed. Instead of stoking crises, the convention should take place as planned in December, and we should focus on moving the party forward,” Wike concluded.
Wike’s remarks highlight the deepening tensions within the PDP as the party prepares for its next convention amidst internal disputes and leadership challenges.
